Propel Workshop = awesome part one | Malibu, CA

Propel held by Caroline Tran left me inspired, invigorated, and full of new ideas and ambition. Caroline is one of my favorite photographers…Besides taking absolutely breathtaking images (seriously…I have gotten lost for hours on her site more than once just taking in all the beauty), she is an INCREDIBLE teacher.

Confession:  I am a little bit of a workshop junkie. This isn’t because I need images for a portfolio…I have plenty of weddings and other sessions to keep that covered! I mainly LOVE workshops because of these reasons:
a) I get to learn from a photographer whose work I admire (and blog stalk, strive to be like, etc…).
b) I get to meet all kinds of other awesome photographers, most who become some of my favorite people in the industry.
c) >>>this is the big one<<< I strive to be much more than a photographer who shows up to take pictures. I want to bring something else to the area of my business (the beautiful Brainerd Lakes). STYLE. I want sessions and weddings infused with the couples personal style, things they love. I want more than tight red roses and thick bright white corset tied satin dresses. I want beauty, simply styled. This doesn’t require a mega-budget, it just requires a little knowledge from the right places. I know when I started searching out venues/florals/furniture rentals/dresses/everything else wedding related in 2009 I had a TOUGH TIME. So, long explanation short, I LOVE going to workshops, especially this workshop by Caroline because I get to see how top industry professionals work (stylists/planners/event production/all that awesomeness//then photographed by a world-class photographer like Caroline Tran) and get the job done.

So…back to the workshop…talk about amazing. I will write more on Caroline and the experience as a whole later, but overall I give it an A+. It is tied with my favorite workshop of all time (Oncewed/Jose Villa). We stayed at a beautiful hotel, I had an awesome roommate (check out her work!! Isa lives in Hong Kong), and I learned more about my business (and more importantly future business ventures!) from a photographer who knows what she is talking about – Caroline Tran.
