Anne is so beautiful. Ahh…I may say and think that about everyone I photograph, but I believe it. (: Portraits are really important to me and I LOVE LOVE LOVE when my subject also feel that way. Enjoy the pretty.

I photographed Tasha and Jason’s engagement session on one of the most beautiful evenings last summer. The temperature was perfectly warm, the humidity was next to none, AND I got to meet Tasha’s fiancé for the first time and watch their love in front of my camera. LOVE. They are getting married this Saturday and I seriously can’t wait for my first wedding of 2012! I know it will be absolutely stunning…I can’t wait to see Tasha in her gorgeous gown (yes, I was so fortunate to see a little preview via cell phone pic) and take in every last detail. For now, enjoy a taste of their beautiful summer engagement session.
2011 was a year to remember to say the least. My favorite fortune cookie saying this year is so fitting…work is the true elixir of life…the busiest man is the happiest man. That would be my year summed up pretty much perfectly. Mrs. Photographer-wise, 2011 was my second year in business. In February I made a last minute decision to head to Las Vegas for WPPI mainly to attend the Making Things Happen intensive as well as a last minute opportunity to photograph a styled session organized by Laura Ivanova and Scheme Events. MTH helped me make things happen. :) In March I signed a lease for space in the clocktower at Northern Pacific Center in Brainerd, Minnesota. I moved in April 1…HAPPY DAY! My studio has consumed 99% of the free time that was already scarce, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It is my haven…2,000 sq ft of perfect aimee-wonderland. I welcomed my first portrait sessions at my new studio in April and May. Thank you to my clients who have loved the space…even through restoration and construction. In June, I headed to Serenbe, Georgia for the Once Wed/Jose Villa workshop. Being my typical self, I got hurt right before I left and spent the workshop with a swollen, bruised, broken foot with compliments from my little sister landing on my bare foot with her soccer cleats during a badminton game. Lesson learned. :) When the summer got in to full swing, besides photographing engagement sessions and weddings I also did some commercial work for BRANDtabulous, Buttercream, North Loop Wine and Spirits, and others. Meanwhile, I was still working on my studio every free moment I had (alongside my wonderful husband) making my photography work space a dream come true. AND I can’t forget that my BEST FRIEND got married! I ended my wonderful season with a concussion (totally self induced mishap) just before the holidays and am finally on the half full side of healing.
For those of you have made it through reading this (and make it to the bottom of the images…there are a lot!) here is the start of my 2012. A lot of you know I had planned to leave my full-time job and do photography exclusively this year. Sometimes plans change…this isn’t a bad thing. I love working for Apple Automatic just as I love photography. The challenge of the job is different than taking pictures and creating art. My left brain and right brain are both pretty full and sometimes they both need to be satisfied. :) I included a few images at the bottom of some vending equipment (LOVE) and our company photo this year. We are a pretty good team. I will remain with Apple full-time, BUT I will also be at my studio more often with business hours (to be posted soon). What does this mean for current and new clients? I will be available to you during set business hours, and I will soon introduce my new assistant who will taking care of most details. I will also be limiting my weddings (currently only booking three more for the year), but I will be expanding my weekday portrait sessions. We will also be holding viewing/ordering sessions at the studio either with me or my assistant.
Lastly, I included some personal images at the end of this post. One is of my husband and I in front of our first Christmas tree at the studio. The image of the tree alone with the ladder is for measurement purposes. Just over twelve feet! The image of the broken window panes is one I will never forget as restoring those windows literally consumed 500 labor hours. It was all worth it as they are sure a beauty to look at now. And for the Leica…2012 is a year where I am going back to the basics in some aspects. In high school I spent endless hours in the darkroom. There is some type of magic watching a photo develop before your eyes. This year I will be experimenting with 120mm, 220mm, and 35mm film during portrait sessions and personal work.
For everything/everyone I forgot, I am going to blame it on hitting my head. Happy 2012! Thank you to all of my wonderful clients this year. You’re the best!
Last week I received my first copy of Sonic Love Child’s cd OLD IS THE NEW NEW. Besides jumping up and down after seeing my photography on the cover (and my name on the back…oh vanity) I ordered extra copies right away to give as Christmas gifts. I photographed Sonic Love Child earlier this year on a freezing Minnesota winter day. They are a super talented local band (and Nicole is my by BFF’s older sister, which is an added piece of awesome). Check out their facebook and keep your ears open for their music on local radio (and go buy their CD of course featuring my photography on the cover and the disc)! From their website: Great melodies and fine lyrics provide the inspiration for the wide ranging lead vocals, deft harmonies, and tasteful instrumentation that characterize Sonic Love Child’s performances. With classic and original country, folk, blues, and vintage pop, SLC employs a broad palette of styles to paint an engaging and affectionate portrait of American roots and pop music. Featuring David Alderson on vocals and rhythm guitar, Mark Hoornbeek on lead acoustic and electric guitars, and Nicole Navratil on vocals, SLC shares its enthusiasm for diverse music with with equal measures of respect for tradition and irreverent humor.
I can’t believe it is almost Christmas and we have NO snow on the ground. I am not complaining as I have loved this warm weather as of late…but something just seems to be missing without all the white pretty snow outside. I can’t think of a better gift than being blessed with a little newborn girl right before the holidays. Congrats Anne! Her and her big sister are just so beautiful.
